Much could be said about the field of awareness upon which this is based. I just created it as I saw it through deep meditation. It's a visual metaphor for how we project into this system that we tend to think of as our "reality".
As I see it, we project "here" from a truer "reality", which we can only describe conceptually due to the limitations of our current awareness. The truer reality is best described as a state of formlessness, from which we self-project into form, which is delimited by time and space.
Most of us enter form via the birth process. This depicts an advanced being's alternative way of entering, during which "he" dispenses with the need to enter via the birth process. (In this instance, the word "he" will stand for "he or she". It refers to the whole entity who exists, or whose being is, beyond the limitations of gender identity.)
Since creating this artwork, I've encountered texts in various sources on the metaphysical with which it aligns compatibly. Here's a portion of text from a book by Jane Roberts entitled The Early Sessions, Book 1 of the Seth Material, page 236-237 which illustrates this.*
"…your plane originated because enough entities needed certain types of experience to warrant such creation, and they set about forming it through the process of evolution. The smallest minute first portion represented the will and vitality of all the entities that would ever dwell upon the earth that would come after.

Since all entities had a hand in when the first particle of matter came into physical materialization, then the inference is plain that entities not yet born upon your planet somehow existed then, and this is the case…
...the entities always were and always will be, though not necessarily in the same form…

All entities basically are self-aware portions of energy or vitality.  They are self-generating and there is no possibility of thinking in terms of either beginning or end.  Again, it is only your camouflage-imprisoned data which makes you think that everything has a beginning and end."
*After I added the above quote, I realized it's even more applicable to another painting I created entitled "The Beginning is the End". I'll add it asap. In the meantime, I'm leaving the quote as is because it works pretty well for this one too, imo.

Vision Quest Original Painting

Vision Quest PaintingVision Quest. Acrylic on canvas, 22 x 28 inches
About the painting: An Iroquois man sees his ancestors in spirit. They’re holding a light festival. I had no knowledge of it in historical terms when I was working on it.

Includes metallic gold painted wood frame & mounted hanging hardware.
The vision represented here materialized for me in an interesting form after I finished the painting. My husband and I happened, seemingly by chance, to be visiting the Finger Lakes area of NYS in September at the same time a Light Festival was being held by Native Iroquois people in the region. We opted to attend it. In retrospect, I don’t think it was an accident to have taken part in it after doing a painting based on it.
The festival was Genundowa. It is held on Canandaigua Lake. Many Native American people attended the time we were there.
Here’s an explanation of what takes place from the website visitfingerlakes.com
“The Labor Day Weekend Ring of Fire has a historical context. The people of the Seneca celebrated Genundowa (Festival of Lights) where lake fires of tobacco were lit to express gratitude for being saved from the Great Snake and for a bountiful harvest, good hunting, and fishing.”
10/5/2018: I was reminded of this painting a few days ago. As I entered the local store, I met up with a woman walking out who was wearing a sweatshirt decorated with the same design on it and the same color (black) as a T-shirt I own. On it is artwork showing bright-colored flamelike beings and the words “Genundowa Festival of Light, Canandaigua Lake” on it. I’m honoring it in the tradition of Natives with social media posts and a new listing for it on my website.
